Aquatic Weed and Algae Control

Aquatic plant management is often necessary to ensure your lake or pond reaches it's fullest potential.  Whether it's for the safety of your family swimming, enjoying aesthetic views, boating, or rebalancing a native ecosystem, we can tailor the best treatment plan to meet your needs. Our management experience includes work with individual homeowners, association and community detention/retention ponds, government entities, marinas, lake boards, and more!

We are a fully licensed business through the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.  All of our treatments are conducted in accordance with Michigan's Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy's Aquatic Nuisance Control permits.  Every product proposed and utilized in our management plans are approved by the EPA for aquatic use.

Lake Management & Pond Consulting

Already have an applicator for your lake?  Many waterbodies desire additional transparency in their management programs.  We work with other highly qualified applicators to build your management program and ensure it's executed to perfection.  This includes vegetation mapping, on-site treatment supervision, and reporting from our company.

Are you a DIY person but you're not sure where to start?  We offer pond consultations and recommendations for you to implement your own management plan.  We offer discounts on retail treatment products too!

Phragmites

These invasive plants can be found along shorelines, marshy areas, and along roadside ditches throughout the Midwest.  They can grow 12-15' tall and will choke out all other native plants in the area, impede waterfront views, and degrade shorelines.  Phragmites grow so dense that they inhibit water usage such as swimming, fishing, and animal passage.  Contact us today for a quote on treatment and cutting/removal services.

Fountain & Aeration

Take your pond to the next level!  Whether you simply love the aesthetics of a fountain in your pond or you want to increase dissolved oxygen for your fishery, we offer design and installation for units from multiple manufacturers to fit your needs and your budget.

Water Quality Analysis

Harmful algal blooms, excess nutrient concerns, E.coli testing, dissolved oxygen levels, and more.  Whether things are going well or when they take a turn for the worse, it's important to know what's happening in your lake or pond.  We can help get you the answers by offering full water quality analysis through independent lab testing.

Shoreline Engineering and Erosion Control

Michigan Lake & Pond is one of the few water management companies in the State certified in Natural Shoreline Engineering.  Let us design a solution for your shoreline erosion and help you regain your waterfront today!

Nutrient Mitigation

Excess nutrient is often the cause of extensive plant growth, especially algae.  We implement phosphorus binding technology and/or Biological Augmentation (natural bacteria) to reduce these nutrient loads in your water body.  This includes reducing muck!  Contact us today to see how these products can help restore the health of your lake or pond.

Fish Habitat

Are you looking to improve your backyard fishery?  Our experts can help evaluate your pond's needs for population, diversity, and habitat.  Contact us today for a quote on fish stocking or habitat installation.

Mosquito Control

Take control of your backyard again by adding our mosquito control to any management program.  Our mosquito application controls 95% of adults and larvae within 72 hours of application and lasts 30-45 days.  This product is OMRI listed for organic use!  Ask us about adding Skeeter to your management program today!

Your pond, like all waterbodies, needs vegetation to maintain a healthy and balanced ecosystem.  However, invasive species and excess nutrients often lead to excessive growth and plague ponds in and around developed areas.

Our solution is proactive management.  We combine traditional treatment methods with phosphorus binding technology and Biological Augmentation (natural bacteria).  This process effectively targets non-native plant species, eradicating them from the water body. It then reduces the nutrient load in the pond, leading to a reduction in plant growth and ultimately less herbicide required to maintain control.

We have implemented our proactive pond management programs in backyard ponds, golf courses, municipalities, and homeowner associations throughout Michigan.

Your lake needs vegetation to support and maintain a healthy ecosystem.  The problems arise when invasive plants out-compete the beneficial, native plants, and then grow to nuisance levels.  This process creates safety concerns, impedes recreational activities, and disrupts fish spawning.

Proper planning is key to successful, long-term results in your lake and our Lake Managers have the knowledge and experience to take you from start to finish.

Step 1 - Mapping and identification.  Using state of the art technology, we combine Eco-Sound Biobase mapping with live visual surveys to map, identify, and quantify the nuisance plant types and densities.  Our technology allows us to pinpoint the exact treatment areas, maximizing your budget and the overall effectiveness of your management plan.

Step 2 - Executing the treatment.  We can provide multiple treatment options to meet any budget.  After we find the right treatment plan for you, we upload that data to the onboard GPS systems in our specialized application boats. Once on the water, these systems ensure we apply the exact product rates to the specific areas we've identified in our mapping.

Step 3 - Monitoring and reporting.  Using the same techniques as Step 1, we can accurately track and report post-treatment data, showing you and your fellow riparians the success of your management plan, immediately and from year to year.  We know how important a clean, safe, and healthy lake is to your community.  Our Lake Managers are available to attend association and lake board meetings to help educate and report every level of your management program and its progress.

The big water is calling!  Let us clear the way!

Michigan Lake & Pond provides weed and algae solutions for canals and marinas in Southeast Michigan and around the Saginaw Bay.

These docks and navigational lanes are often choked with invasive plant species and nuisance growth. Continued traffic in and out can cause damage to your boat as well as promote the spread of these non-native plants.  By utilizing sub-surface applications we can execute treatments safely and effectively in these tight quarters.

Contact us today to see how a management plan can clear your path to open water!

Shoreline erosion impacts waterfront properties of all kinds.  While erosion is a natural process, accelerated erosion can be caused by stormwater and irrigation runoff, wave action, or ice heaves.  Regardless, the results are often unsightly and unsafe.

Seawalls are not the answer!  With their vertical nature, they offer little aesthetic appeal and have been proven to create more issues than they solve.

Michigan Lake & Pond has your solution through Natural Shoreline Engineering.  Our staff has been trained and accredited through the State of Michigan as a Certified Natural Shoreline Professional (CNSP).

Natural Shoreline Engineering is the process of using natural materials to implement techniques like "soft-armoring" or "bio-engineering" to solve shoreline erosion.  While providing stabilization to your shoreline, these techniques also offer beautification and help improve your water quality.  We offer many solutions and often use a combination of coir logs, Michigan boulders, and native plantings.  These plantings are customizable and can include trees, shrubs, and flowering plants to enhance your waterside view.

We know providing an effective solution is important, but you also have to love the way it looks.  Whether you're looking for a natural, native look with grasses and wildflowers or the crisp, clean look of Michigan boulders, contact us today and let us tailor a shoreline solution for you!
